GEA Process Engineering Inc.'s liquid processing group has been awarded a contract for a complete laundry detergent processing system. The contract value exceeds US$ 20 million. Church & Dwight Co., Inc. is a well established manufacturer of household and personal care products based on sodium bicarbonate ("baking soda"). Their business is predominately in North America, with annual revenues in excess of $ 2,200 million. Church & Dwight's ARM & HAMMER® brand has been a trusted and recognized name in American homes for over 150 years. Church & Dwight Co. is building a new, "state-of-the-art" laundry detergent manufacturing facility in York, Pennsylvania, about one hour north of GEA's Columbia, MD office. The new facility will utilize technologies to meet goals of plant efficiency and environmental sustainability. GEA Process Engineering Inc. has demonstrated that it has the technologies needed to meet the owner's business goals and has been chosen as their process partner. The scope of this project for GEA Process Engineering Inc. is the "design & build" of the complete laundry detergent process (i.e. no facility responsibility), from raw material inlet to the filler interface. Aside from advanced process integration, several GEA proprietary technologies will be employed, including the GEA Diessel's DICONT continuous blending system and GEA Tuchenhagen's matrix piping systems. It is perceived to be an ideal project for the GEA Process Engineering Inc. as all the required skills and competencies are well within the current track record and consequently the project represents minimal risk. Established in 1974, GEA Process Engineering Inc. is a full-service process engineering company offering completely integrated process systems and solutions for hygienic liquid and powder processing. GEA Process Engineering is a member of the GEA Group, a global technology group, and is also well known for providing filtration, evaporation, drying plants and packaging lines. GEA Process Engineering Inc. systems, equipment and services are utilized by industries that produce food and beverages, chemicals and petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals, cosmetics and personal care products, starch and sweeteners, ethanol and biofuels. However, GEA Process Engineering Inc. has lately been targeting the recession proof industries (like the personal and household care industries) and this project is a testament to that strategy.
